A diverse collection of personal correspondence and diaries predominantly concerned with the period prior to the Earl becoming Viceroy of India in 1905. The series includes letters received from Henry Lane Fox and in particular Sir George Tindal Pretyman, 1866-1900, as well as letters sent to the Countess of Minto, 1904-1912. There is also the latter's engagement diary as Vicereine of India, 1906-1910. In addition, there are military papers, diaries and notebooks which concentrate on the Earl's involvement in the Afghan War and the North-West Frontier (1879) and Egypt (1882). Read more →

The following documents form a collective body of official printed material covering all aspects of British governance in India under Lord Curzon of Kedleston, Viceroy and Governor of India, 1899-1905. These include all matters relating to the Home, Foreign, Finance and Commerce (later to become the Department of Commerce and Industry from March 1905), Legislative, Railway and Military Departments. Supplementary to the papers of the Military Department are official records from Lord Kitchener's administration of the army in India from 1902-1909. Read more →

A vast collection of official printed material concerning the Home, Foreign, Finance, Commerce & Industry, Railways, Legislative, Army, Revenue & Agriculture and Public Works Departments during the fourth Earl of Minto's viceroyalty. There is a strong emphasis on the growth of political movements during this time and a separate document is dedicated to a report relating to the Amritsar Massacre of April 1919. To be found are also speeches and official tours of Lord Minto as well as Household accounts and selected press cuttings during his tenure. Read more →
Correspondence, 1905-1914
The following series of documents comprise of both original and printed copies of letters, telegrams and correspondence both received and sent which, although chiefly concerned with the 4th Earl of Minto's time as Viceroy, also extend beyond his viceroyalty. Correspondents include Kings Edward VII and George V, the Secretary of State for India, Lord Morley, Lord Curzon, Lord Kitchener, the Amir of Afghanistan, the Dalai Lama as well as numerous persons both within and outside of India.
